WHY AM I ASKING FOR SUPPORT?
Perhaps rightly, humanitarian work at the grassroots level is unpaid. NGOs are small and seek to invest all their donation money directly into acquiring, distributing and providing much-needed resources to those they serve.
With governments doing very little, volunteers are vital in upholding basic conditions and providing much-needed support. But whilst short-term volunteers fill a crucial gap, long-term volunteers can provide more structured, targeted responses and can work alongside the Greek community in order to develop ethical, sustainable approaches to the ongoing crisis.
Over the next year, I hope to kick-start some new and exciting projects based in Greece. These range from distribution, alternative media, academic and vocational training and music for social integration projects.
Crossing Strings therefore is an artistic and informative site, but also a site for support. I invite you to browse its pages, creative content, and, if you so wish, to support me in the projects I am involved with over the coming months.
